GOP lawmaker: Let’s not create a new version of ObamaCare

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, said on Sunday that he will vote against the current Republican healthcare proposal.

“I’m not for this plan, and I think there is a lot of opposition for this plan in the House and the Senate,” Jordan told “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.”

“I don’t plan for voting for the plan as introduced by the Speaker … it went through the committees and not one single amendment was allowed to be offered. That is not how the process is supposed to work,” Jordan continued.

Jordan insisted the bill in its current state fails to keep the Republican promise to “pass a clean repeal” of ObamaCare.

“We said we were going to repeal it, so let’s do that,” Jordan told “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.

{mosads}“The key is, let’s do what we told voters we are going to do and repeal ObamaCare, and not create a new version of ObamaCare,” Jordan added.

Jordan slammed the plan, saying it “doesn’t unite Republicans” because it does not bring down premiums, properly distribute tax credits, or make health insurance affordable.

“There’s a reason why every major conservative group is opposed to the Speaker’s plan,” Jordan said while listing off the numbers of other Republican lawmakers in the upper and lower chambers who also oppose the bill.

Jordan also expressed optimism that a full replace bill would pass, because this time it would land on President Trump’s desk instead of former President Barack Obama’s, as one did in 2015.

“The White House is open to changes … we’re looking at changes consistent with what we told the American people,” Jordan said.
