Dem lawmaker: Republicans rushing to pass ‘bad bill’ that Americans won’t understand

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) in an interview Monday slammed Republicans and their proposed health insurance plan, saying the GOP wants to “rush through a bad bill that the American public won’t ever see or understand before it’s passed into law.”

“Republicans have a plan that they are going to rush through the next few weeks so we need to spend our time right now, explaining to the American people what a disaster it is to stop it,” Murphy said on CNN’s “New Day.”

Murphy also said Republican leadership has shown willingness to work with Democrats on amendments.

“Right now there is not an opening because Republicans crafted this bill in secret. Now if they want to work with us, they know where we are,” Murphy said.

{mosads}Murphy explained he feels the need to explain the legislation to the American people because it will be voted on much faster than ObamaCare.

“Well, remember the ObamaCare bill was debated over the course of a year, right? The American public are busy, right? They don’t have the ability on a week’s notice to understand a complicated healthcare bill,” Murphy said in part. “This is being rushed through so that the American people won’t understand what is happening here and I do think it’s my responsibility to try to explain to my constituents and people throughout the country what will happen to their insurance rates, that they will spike if this bill goes in effect.”

Murphy also publicly slammed the Republican plan on social media, saying it would “implode” what ObamaCare accomplished.

Murphy’s tweets also called out Republicans, saying they are bullying the Congressional Budget Office about its cost estimates for the health proposal.
