Freedom Caucus heads to White House ahead of healthcare vote

Some members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus are headed to the White House for a last-ditch meeting on healthcare ahead of a House vote Thursday.

A Freedom Caucus source told Axios that the meeting was requested by Vice President Mike Pence and is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. President Trump is also expected to attend.

The chairman of the Freedom Caucus, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), and several other members will be at the meeting, according to the report.

{mosads}Members of the Freedom Caucus oppose the healthcare legislation because it does not repeal ObamaCare’s insurer regulations and requirements.

Meadows says there are enough holdouts in the caucus to defeat the bill on the floor. The White House needs to change some of their minds if the bill is going to pass the House.

Trump on Tuesday told Republican lawmakers they could lose their seats, as well as House majority in 2018, if they do pass legislation to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

“I believe many of you will lose in 2018,” Trump said.

Meadows maintained that he is not worried about the 2018 prospect if the repeal bill fails.

“I serve at the pleasure of the people of western North Carolina, and when you serve at their pleasure, it’s only those 750,000 people that can send you home,” Meadows said on Tuesday.

“It’s a temporary job, and I’ve known that from day one.”
