Former Freedom Caucus chair: We’ll see on ObamaCare repeal vote

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) suggested Thursday that the House GOP’s ObamaCare repeal-and-replace bill has yet to fully appease conservatives and questioned whether it can pass on the floor later today.

“We have to deliver on that fundamental promise — that fundamental contract — we have with the American people,” Jordan said during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day.”

“So if it does that, we’ll be for it; if it doesn’t, we won’t.”

Jordan, a former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, is among a group of conservatives who argue that the current GOP healthcare measure, the American Health Care Act, doesn’t go far enough to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.

{mosads}President Trump is a firm backer of the AHCA and is urging Republicans in Congress to swiftly pass it in order to fulfill longtime campaign promises to repeal ObamaCare. But a number of last minute concessions on the measure geared to appease House conservatives has begun to push moderate Republicans away.

In spite of the concessions, Jordan said conservatives have not yet seen the changes they need to back the measure.

“If we can get that agreement that accomplishes [our promise to repeal the ACA], that basic objective, we’ll be for it. If we can’t, we won’t,” he said. “That’s just how we look at it, because that’s what’s consistent with what the American people elected Republicans to do.”
