Spicer after bill failed: ‘You learn a lot about who you can count on’

White House press secretary Sean Spicer appeared to take a shot at some GOP lawmakers on Friday after the Republican healthcare bill failed to gain enough support and was scuttled in the House.

“Part of it is trying to figure out as you go down this path who you can rely on and who’s going to keep your word,” Spicer said after the bill failed, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Who’s going to negotiate in good faith? We dealt with over 120 members of Congress and you learn a little about some of these individuals … You just learn a lot about who you can count on and who you can’t,” he said.

“Some people kept saying, ‘I’m trying to get with you,’ and then they’d come back day after day and say, ‘Here’s the next thing I need.’ The reservoir never got dry,” Spicer said.

The White House made several attempts in recent weeks to pressure House Republicans to rally behind the ObamaCare repeal and replace legislation, the American Health Care Act, which several dozen Republicans opposed.

Trump went as far as to issue an ultimatum on Thursday that conservatives back the bill or allow ObamaCare to remain in tact, before reportedly asking Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Friday to withdraw the healthcare bill.

The White House press secretary said that the president is “doing great” despite a major political setback, adding, “He feels confident that he put everything out there.”
