Sanford: ‘Testosterone can get you in trouble’
Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) reportedly issued a warning to lawmakers before House leaders pulled the Republican healthcare bill.
Sanford took note that only men had spoken so far during a meeting Thursday night between White House officials, House leadership and House Freedom Caucus members, CNN reported late Saturday.
“I’m here to tell you, sometimes that testosterone can get you in trouble,” Sanford said, according to sources familiar with his remarks.
{mosads}Sanford was reportedly alluding to an extramarital affair that led to his resignation as chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association in 2009.
On Friday, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) pulled the GOP healthcare bill amid dwindling support among Republicans.
The move, which marked the first legislative defeat for President Trump, comes after seven years of rhetoric from Republicans who campaigned on repealing and replacing former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare legislation.
After the bill was pulled, the president blamed Democrats for not backing it and signaled he would move on to other legislative priorities.
Last week, Vice President Mike Pence also tweeted out a photo of a meeting with the president and members of the Freedom Caucus. The picture sparked controversy when people pointed out the photo showed no women.
