GOP: Sebelius should be fired

Republicans are calling for Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to resign over the rocky rollout of ObamaCare’s enrollment portal.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus tweeted Friday that Sebelius should be “fired” over the problematic and expensive website.

And Sen. Pat Roberts, who represents Kansas, where Sebelius served as governor, accused her of misleading the public about the extent of the marketplaces’ flaws.

“Americans are tired of the Sebelius spin,” Roberts said in a statement. “They can see ObamaCare has failed them. We need a secretary who can admit when enough is enough.”

Roberts is the first GOP lawmaker to call for Sebelius’s resignation following the debut of ObamaCare’s enrollment system, which experienced serious technical problems.

Priebus’s endorsement means the idea will likely receive attention as Republicans push awareness toward the healthcare rollout and away from the government shutdown.

Healthcare.gov has become more functional in the last five days as HHS rushes to make improvements.

The Obama administration cites heavy traffic as a good sign for the marketplaces, but will not release enrollment figures until the end of the month.

In an appearance on “The Daily Show” Monday, Sebelius said she doesn’t know how many people have successfully purchased coverage.

“It started a little rockier than we’d like,” she said. “It’s better today than it was yesterday.”

Roberts said the public should not have to “tolerate the chaos” of the exchanges. He proposed Sebelius’s ouster as an alternative to fully repealing ObamaCare, which he called his “preference.”

The third-term senator faces a Tea Party challenger, Dr. Milton Wolf, in his 2014 primary.
