Dem: ObamaCare repeal vote ‘an assault on working Americans’

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) on Saturday said the GOP’s ObamaCare repeal plan is “an assault on working Americans.”

“It’ll remove over 24 million people who have healthcare now from the roles. It’ll increase costs for Americans. It imposes an age tax and guts the protections of pre-existing conditions,” Maloney told MSNBC.

{mosads}Maloney said one of the pre-existing conditions she heard a lot about in her office was pregnancy.

“Many women could not get coverage or healthcare for the birth of a child because they had a pre-existing condition, pregnancy,” she said.

Maloney said ObamaCare was “particularly good” for women and talked about the benefits of Planned Parenthood.

She also criticized House Republicans for heading to the White House after voting to pass the bill Thursday to celebrate with President Trump, saying the bill is “dead on arrival” at the Senate.

“They’re starting all over,” she said.

“And more importantly than my friends in the Senate, there’s people across this country who have benefited under the Affordable healthcare, who have liked getting their prescription drugs covered, who have liked having pregnancy covered and their illnesses.”

The House on Thursday passed legislation aimed at repealing and replacing ObamaCare, taking a major step toward a long-held GOP goal and setting in motion an overhaul of the nation’s health system. The narrow 217-213 vote was a victory for GOP leaders.

After the vote, President Trump, flanked by House Republicans, said from the White House Rose Garden he was “confident” the Senate would also vote to repeal ObamaCare.
