House Speaker Paul Ryan on Sunday called the GOP’s healthcare bill a “rescue mission,” saying that ObamaCare is collapsing.
“This is a rescue mission to make sure that we can achieve the goals we all want,” the Wisconsin Republican said during an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”
“Which is getting the cost of coverage down, and making sure that everyone has access to affordable healthcare, especially including people with pre-existing conditions. That is what our bill does.”
{mosads}Ryan said the Republicans are making sure they are “stepping in front of this collapsing law.”
“And make sure that we can have a system that works,” he said.
“A system with choice and competition and affordable premiums. And we have multiple layers of protections for people with pre-existing conditions.”
Last week, the House narrowly passed a bill aimed at repealing and replacing ObamaCare, which includes an amendment that would allow states to waive ObamaCare’s mandate that insurers treat everyone equally regardless of their health.
Trump and GOP leaders took a victory lap after the vote last week during an event at the White House Rose Garden.
