Poll: Support for ObamaCare repeal-only plan at 13 percent

Just 13 percent of Americans support the Senate moving forward with a plan to repeal ObamaCare without a replacement, according to a new survey.

Eight in 10 think Republicans should offer to negotiate the healthcare issue with Democrats if their effort fails, according to an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey released Wednesday. And 9 in 10 said Democrats should come to the table if Republicans are willing. 

A majority of Republicans, 54 percent, support repealing ObamaCare once lawmakers have a replacement plan prepared. But just 27 percent of Republicans want it immediately repealed.

{mosads}Among Democrats, only a small percentage want lawmakers to keep ObamaCare just as it is. The poll found that about 22 percent of Democrats think ObamaCare should be left as is, while 64 percent think it should be kept but tweaked. 

The poll was conducted July 13–17 among 1,019 adults. The margin of error is 4.1 percentage points.

The Senate GOP’s healthcare bill collapsed earlier this week due to a lack of support.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said the Senate would move forward with a vote to repeal ObamaCare, with a possible replacement coming later.

President Trump on Wednesday urged senators to cancel their August recess and not leave town until acting to repeal ObamaCare.

“We shouldn’t leave town until this is complete,” he said during a lunch at the White House. “We should hammer this out and get it done.”

Trump also said that repeal isn’t enough.

“We can repeal, but we should repeal and replace,” he said.
