Pence: Trump and Price will ‘work it out’
Vice President Pence declined to weigh in on the controversy surrounding Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price’s use of taxpayer-funded private jets, saying instead that he would leave it up to President Trump and Price to “work it out.”
“The president has made his feelings very clear and he’s looking into the matter,” Pence told Fox News correspondent Kristin Fisher in an interview. “I hold Secretary Price in the highest personal regards.”
“But the president has made it clear that he’s not happy with those developments,” he added. “He’ll look into it and I’ll leave it between the president and the secretary to work it out.”
{mosads}Price has come under fire for flying at least 24 times on private planes for both official and personal travel. A Politico report published last week pegged the total spending on those flights at more than $400,000.
Trump said Wednesday that he is “not happy” with Price’s travel and that he is “looking into” the matter.
The HHS inspector general is reviewing the flights. Price has said he will stop taxpayer-funded travel on charter planes during the review.
