GOP senator: ObamaCare repeal ‘alive and well’
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Sunday pushed back on the thinking that the GOP’s effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare collapsed.
“Just ran out of time,” Johnson said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“I wouldn’t say collapsed, I think it’s still alive and well … We need more time.”
Republicans have long been pushing to repeal and replace ObamaCare, but multiple efforts stalled in the Senate due to a lack of GOP support.
Johnson’s comments come after President Trump tweeted Saturday he had called Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) “to see if the Dems want to do a great HealthCare bill.”
“ObamaCare is badly broken, big premiums. Who knows!” Trump tweeted.
Schumer said Saturday he told Trump that Democrats are open to stabilizing the health care system, but that another push to repeal and replace ObamaCare was “off the table.”
The president’s outreach to Schumer comes as leaders of the Senate Health Committee are trying to rally Republicans and Democrats around a short-term plan aimed at lowering ObamaCare premiums for 2018 and 2019.
