Poll: Majority says Puerto Rico not getting enough help after hurricane

A majority of Americans surveyed think Puerto Ricans aren’t getting the hurricane relief they need, while Texas is, according to a new poll released Monday. 

Seventy percent of respondents say Puerto Ricans are not getting the help they need following Hurricane Maria, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation Poll, up from 62 percent last month.  

Twenty percent say they are, while 9 percent said they don’t know or refused to answer.

In contrast, 60 percent of those surveyed say Texans are getting the help they need following Hurricane Harvey in late August. Thirty-one percent say Texans aren’t getting the help they need and 9 percent didn’t know or refused. 

The poll was conducted from Nov. 8-13 among 1,201 adults with a margin of error of plus or minute 3 percent.

The White House made an additional $44 billion supplemental payment request for Puerto Rico hurricane aid last week, but Democrats say it isn’t enough.

Top Democrats are also pushing for the administration to provide additional funding for the territory’s beleaguered Medicaid program.
