Global cases of coronavirus top 71,000
Coronavirus has infected more than 71,000 people globally, the World Health Organization confirmed Monday.
The number of cases is still heavily focussed in mainland China, where the virus originated.
Of the 71,000 confirmed cases, 1,775 have died, including three deaths outside mainland China.
An additional 99 cases have reportedly been confirmed on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan.
U.S. officials evacuated more than 300 American passengers from the ship Sunday, including 14 passengers newly confirmed to test positive for the virus. The evacuated passengers will be quarantined for an additional 14 days after disembarking charter planes in the U.S.
