London recorded zero COVID-19 deaths on Sunday

The city of London on Sunday announced it had recorded no COVID-19 deaths for the first time in more than a month, according to government figures, a landmark moment for the United Kingdom, one of the countries hardest hit by the coronavirus. 

It’s the first time London has not recorded a COVID-19 death since Feb. 27, according to a report in the Evening Standard. 

The United Kingdom has been devastated by the coronavirus, but it has had a successful vaccination campaign that has been speedier than other countries, offering hope to Great Britain that the worst of the pandemic is behind it.

There were 19 deaths across the country reported from the coronavirus on Sunday. That compares to 487 in the United States, according to the tracker kept by The New York Times.

In total, 15,413 people have died from COVID-19 in London, while the United Kingdom has recorded 126,592 deaths, according to the Standard.
