Nearly 3 in 4 say Johnson & Johnson pause won’t decrease likelihood of vaccination: poll

A majority of people said that the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine pause should not alter a person’s decision to get vaccinated, and nearly 3 in 4 people said it will not deter them personally from getting vaccinated.

Sixty-three percent of respondents said that people should continue to get Pfizer and Moderna shots despite Johnson & Johnson blood clot concerns, while 37 percent believe that people should slow down and wait for more information before getting the vaccine, a de Beaumont poll showed.

Meanwhile, 76 percent said the pause will not deter them from getting vaccinated, and 87 percent of those polled who have already been vaccinated said they did not regret their decision.

Federal health officials recommended a pause on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to six reports of blood clots after a person has received the vaccine.

However, 61 percent of people believe this is an isolated issue with Johnson & Johnson and not indicative of the safety of all the coronavirus vaccines.

A poll by Axios-Ipsos Coronvirus Index showed most Americans believe the federal government was correct in pausing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to review safety concerns.

Overall, vaccine confidence is becoming less divided along partisan lines as former President Trump’s supporters gain trust in the vaccines.

The statement “The bottom line is COVID-19 vaccines save lives, and Americans should continue to get vaccinated as soon as possible” was agreed on by 72 percent of President Biden supports and 60 percent of Trump supporters.

Sixty percent of Trump supporters and 66 percent of Biden supporters say the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

The increased confidence in the vaccines comes as half of U.S. adults have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The poll was conducted on more than 1,000 registered voters between April 15 and April 16. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
