Walgreens giving $25 to new vaccine recipients
Popular pharmacy and store chain Walgreens is giving $25 to people who go get the coronavirus vaccine at their locations from Tuesday to Saturday.
A person who gets vaccinated will either receive a $25 gift card or get rewards on their myWalgreens account, according to a statement from the company released Tuesday.
Children ages 12 to 15 who receive the vaccine are not eligible for the gift card, but their guardian present at the appointment can collect the reward.
“Walgreens is providing the added incentive to encourage more individuals to get a COVID-19 vaccine in support of President Biden’s National Month of Action,” Walgreens said in its statement.
Walgreens offers vaccinations by appointment or walk-in. Many of their stores have extended their hours every Friday in June in order to provide more opportunities for people get the jab.
The offer for a gift card is not valid for locations in Arkansas, New York and New Jersey.
News of the reward comes as several companies and states have created incentives to encourage Americans to get the vaccine.
Vaccination rates have slowed down in the U.S. since the mad dash for the inoculation earlier this year.
The White House acknowledged on Tuesday that it will not reach its goal of 70 percent of American adults receiving at least one dose of the vaccine by July 4.
