Most in new poll approve of Biden administration’s ‘door-to-door’ vaccine awareness plan

Most Americans approve of the Biden administration’s “door-to-door” vaccine awareness proposal, according to a Morning Consult-Politico poll released Wednesday.

Overall, 54 percent of respondents said they support such a vaccination promotion campaign, including 28 percent who “strongly support” it and 26 percent who “somewhat” do.

Thirty-nine percent of respondents said they opposed a door-to-door campaign, including 10 percent who “somewhat oppose” the plan and 29 percent who “strongly oppose” it.

Seven percent said they either had no opinion or didn’t know.

Biden unveiled the strategy earlier this month as part of a shift toward grassroots efforts to reach those who have yet to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. But Republicans have been critical of the strategy, arguing that it is government intrusion.

The White House has repeatedly asserted that federal employees will not be going door-to-door, but that it is important for people to hear from community leaders that they trust about vaccinations.

Support for the door-to-door push largely fell along party lines, the poll found.

In total, 81 percent of Democrats and people who “lean Democrat” supported the strategy, including 49 percent who strongly support and 32 percent who somewhat support the plan.

Conversely, 65 percent of Republicans and those who “lean Republican” opposed the strategy, including 52 percent who are strongly opposed and 13 percent who are somewhat opposed.

The survey was conducted between July 9-12, 2021 among a sample of 1,996 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
