Woman with coronavirus visited conference in Las Vegas
A New York woman has been hospitalized in Las Vegas and has tested positive for the coronavirus after spending time at a conference in Las Vegas.
The woman, who the Southern Nevada Health District identified as being in her 40s, had symptoms before attending the Women of Power Summit at The Mirage in Las Vegas, according to USA Today. She attended the conference from March 5 to 8 before being hospitalized the last day.
The patient is now “isolated and in stable condition,” the health district said in a release.
The health district said it is working with the conference facility and organizers to let attendees and close contacts of the woman know that she tested positive. More than 1,000 people were registered to attend, USA Today reported.
“We want to know every single detail about where she had been during those days,” Fermin Leguen, the district health officer for the Southern Nevada Health District, said, according to USA Today.
The woman’s case was one of three coronavirus cases in Clark County. The other two cases involved a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s who are isolated at home and were close contacts to previous reported cases.
The county that encompasses Las Vegas has recorded five cases total, officials said.
MGM Resorts International announced Wednesday that the woman who attended the conference stayed at The Mirage. The company is “deep cleaning” and “sanitizing” the woman’s room, which is restricted.
“Upon learning of the individual’s symptoms, Mirage staff worked in coordination with the state health district to implement MGM Resorts’ health and safety protocol,” MGM Resorts said in a statement.
The resort company had decided all buffets would close at seven locations to prevent the spread of the virus that has rocked the country.
Nevada has recorded seven cases, as the U.S. as a whole has confirmed more than 1,300 cases and at least 38 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
