RNC chairwoman recommended COVID-19 test after experiencing symptoms

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel was advised Friday evening to seek testing for the novel coronavirus upon her doctor’s recommendation after experiencing characteristic symptoms.

Michael Ahrens, the RNC’s communications director, said in a post to his followers on Twitter on Saturday that McDaniel would be tested for the coronavirus after exhibiting symptoms.

Last night, @GOPChairwoman‘s doctor determined a test for COVID-19 was necessary given her symptoms.

“Last night, Chairwoman McDaniel began experiencing a fever and flu-like symptoms, and she went to her local hospital in Michigan for treatment. Flu and strep tests were administered and came back negative,” a statement posted by Ahrens said.

McDaniel’s physician concluded that a test for COVID-19 was necessary, given her symptoms and the other tests that came back negative.

“As she awaits results, out of an abundance of caution, we are contacting everyone the Chairwoman remembers coming in contact within recent days,” the statement added. “Upon the advice of doctors, she and her family are self-quarantining at their home.”

Updates will be provided as soon as more information is known about test results from McDaniel, according to the statement.
