“The View” co-host Meghan McCain invoked her father on Wednesday when calling on people to self-isolate and “be selfless” amid the coronavirus outbreak.
McCain referenced the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who died of brain cancer, saying, “There was nothing I could do to stop it.”
“We have the power to flatten the curve and stop #coronavirus from spreading,” she posted. “Please isolate, don’t go out, be selfless.”
The former senator died in 2018 after being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017.
McCain’s comments come as the fight against the coronavirus has ramped up in the U.S. Several states across the country have ordered restaurants and bars to close down to in-person diners to prevent the virus spreading in communities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that those who are older or who suffer from chronic illnesses are more susceptible to serious illness or death when infected with the virus. Health officials are encouraging people around the world to social distance to avoid infecting others.
McCain’s fellow “View” host Whoopi Goldberg joined the show from home Wednesday, saying she is “taking extra precaution” after suffering from double pneumonia last year.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said Tuesday that he is considering issuing a “shelter in place” order similar to the one implemented in San Francisco.
The U.S. has recorded more than 7,300 cases of the virus and 115 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
