Two French Open players quarantined after positive COVID-19 tests

Two players who are competing in the French Open are in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19, CNN Reported.

Roland Garros organizers confirmed to CNN on Thursday that two male players competing in the doubles event have been removed and will eventually be replaced by a team on the alternate list. 

Organizers said 2,446 COVID-19 tests have been performed on their players since the beginning of the tournament on May 24, according to CNN. 

“This is the first occurrence in which the tournament organizers must remove players, in accordance with their health protocol,” Roland Garros organizers said in a statement. “As a reminder, the health of all tournament players and that of their teams is continuously monitored through very regular testing, and they live and train in socially-distanced ‘bubbles.’”

This news comes after Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka withdrew from the tournament on Monday after organizers fined her $15,000 for not speaking with the media. She cited mental health issues for skipping her media duties and for withdrawing from the event. 

The French Open, which was postponed due to the ongoing pandemic, was pushed back a week later to allow a limited number of fans to attend the event.
