Possible salmonella contamination prompts recall of McCormick seasonings

The McCormick spice company on Tuesday announced a recall of four of its widely sold spices due to concerns of a potential salmonella contamination.

According to an announcement from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the McCormick products believed to be exposed to the bacteria are: McCormick Perfect Pinch Italian Seasoning, McCormick Culinary Italian Seasoning and Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Ranch Seasoning.

The products were shipped out between June 20 and July 21. They were shipped to 32 states, Bermuda and Canada.

The states the products were shipped to are: Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Customers who have bought one of these products do not need to return them to the store where they were bought, but can instead call McCormick Consumer Affairs at 1-800-635-2867 for a replacement, refund or general inquiry.

No illnesses have been reported from potential contamination so far.

“McCormick has alerted customers and grocery outlets to remove the product with the affected date codes from store shelves and distribution centers immediately, and to destroy this product in a manner that would prevent any further consumption,” the announcement stated.

Though a list of retailers where these products are sold was not provided, USA Today reported that grocery store chains like Walmart, Target and Kroger are known to have carried the products in question.
