President Obama on Sunday said he was “deeply saddened” by the “loss of life and extensive damage” in the Philippines after one of the worst storms on record hit the tiny South East Asian island nation.

Obama said the U.S. was already providing “significant” humanitarian assistance, and stood ready to further assist the Philippine government in relief and recovery efforts.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the millions of people affected by this devastating storm,” Obama said.
On Friday, Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the Philippines with winds upwards of 190 miles. At least 10,000 people are believed to be dead.
