Biden spent Thanksgiving on Nantucket with his family, before flying to Andrews.
The vice president’s trip, which also includes stops in China and South Korea, is part of President Obama’s “pivot” to the region.
In Tokyo, Biden will be focused on the negotiations over the 12-member Pacific Rim trade deal. In Beijing and Seoul, the discussion will shift to security and regional issues.
