Lawmakers send bipartisan wishes to US Olympic team

The House Foreign Affairs panel sent its best wishes to the U.S. Olympic team in a bipartisan video on Tuesday.

Panel chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) and ranking member Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) host the video, which has an uplifting musical score and is shot in front of the committee’s giant world map.

“Some days it seems there’s not a lot of bipartisan agreement in Washington,” Royce says in the video.

“But with the Winter Olympics just days away, we stand together in support of the men and women of the United States Olympic team,” Engel chimes in.

Several members of the committee make cameos, waving U.S. flags or wearing a Team USA jacket.

“What the Olympics means to me is it’s time for nations to put aside their differences,” says Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.).

“People coming together to celebrate athletics in their own countries,” adds Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.).

The committee is one of the most bipartisan in Congress, with members largely agreeing on issues from support to Israel to sanctions on Iran. Other members in the video include lawmakers as ideologically diverse as Reps. Greg Meeks (D-N.Y.), Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Karen Bass (D-Calif.), Ami Bera (D-Calif.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), Grace Meng (D-N.Y.), Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.), Tom Marino (R-Penn.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.).
