Netanyahu to make rounds on Capitol Hill

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will bring Congress together on Monday.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will jointly host him at 3:45 p.m., according to Reid’s office. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will host a rare joint press appearance with him an hour later, offering brief remarks before heading into a closed-door meeting along with other members of Congress.

Netanyahu will be in Washington for the annual policy conference of America’s main pro-Israel lobby, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). He is also scheduled to meet President Obama at the White House to discuss nuclear talks with Iran, peace negotiations with the Palestinians and other issues.

The visit comes as Reid and McConnell are battling over whether to bring up Iran sanctions legislation that the White House has said could derail talks with Iran. Netanyahu has denounced an interim deal with Iran but has largely remained out of the current fray on Capitol Hill.
