Bachmann accuses US Jews of selling out Israel

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) accused the American Jewish community this week of selling out Israel with its support of President Obama.

In a radio interview on “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins,” Bachmann said the Jewish community elected Obama, who just recently urged the Senate to back down on additional sanctions against Iran.

{mosads}”This is clearly against Israel’s best interest,” she said. “What has been shocking has been seeing and observing Jewish organizations who it appears have made it their priority to support the political priority and the political ambitions of the president over the best interests of Israel. They sold out Israel,” Bachmann told Perkins, who serves as president of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian lobbying group. 

Obama is “threatening Israel,” Bachmann said, with an economic boycott should it fail to give up land to the Palestinians.

“The one country that the president is saying the United States would stand up against, and in effect support an economic boycott toward, would be our greatest friend in the world, Israel,” Bachmann said. 

In actuality, the president has never said he’d support a boycott against Israel. In fact, Secretary of State John Kerry said on Monday the U.S. must reject such boycotts. 

Both have warned Israel could face isolation from other countries if it doesn’t try to make peace with the Palestinians. 

“He’s remarkably emboldened in what I would construe as an anti-Israel viewpoint,” Bachmann said of Obama. 

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday said the support of the U.S.-Israel alliance is at an “all-time high.”

In a White House meeting with Netanyahu a day earlier, Obama said “We do not have a closer friend or ally than Israel, and the bond between our two countries and our two people is unbreakable.”
