Schiff: GOP turning to Benghazi to attack Clinton

A House Democrat on the intelligence committee is accusing Republicans of drumming up the latest round of criticisms over the Benghazi terrorist attack in an effort to poke holes in Hilary Clinton’s potential 2016 presidential campaign.

“I think that’s clearly the case,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told “Fox News Sunday.”

{mosads}Clinton, who many speculate will run for president, was the secretary of State at the time of the terrorist attack on Benghazi, which Republicans have called a foreign policy failure on the part of the Obama administration.

Some Democrats have suggested that after Republicans unsuccessfully used Benghazi as a talking point during President Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012, they are now trying to use it against Clinton, who was the Obama administration’s point person on Benghazi.

But Anita Dunn, who was the White House communications director during the early months of the Obama administration before the Benghazi attacks, said Clinton will be ready to weather the storm.

“I think it’s hard for us to say how big of an issue it will be,” Dunn told NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Should Hillary Clinton decide to be a candidate for the nomination, she’ll be prepared to deal with this, and she’ll be prepared to deal with it as she did on Capitol Hill and as this administration has dealt with it – transparently, intelligently.”
