Netanyahu blasts Iran nuclear negotiations

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday blasted the emerging framework of an Iranian nuclear agreement, saying it is worse than Israel expected and warning of an “Iran-Lausanne-Yemen axis” that is “very dangerous for humanity.”

{mosads}“I just met U.S. Senate Republican leader [Mitch] McConnell. Over the weekend I spoke with U.S. Senate Democratic leader [Harry] Reid,” he told his Cabinet in Jerusalem. “I heard from both of them about strong and continuing bipartisan support for Israel and of course this is very important.”

“I expressed to them our deep concern over the agreement being formulated with Iran in the nuclear talks. This agreement, as it appears, confirms all of our concerns and even more so,” he added.

“After the Beirut-Damascus-Baghdad axis,” Netanyahu continued, “Iran is carrying out a pincers movement in the south as well in order to take over and conquer the entire Middle East. The Iran-Lausanne-Yemen axis is very dangerous for humanity and needs to be stopped.”

U.S.-led negotiations with Iran have reportedly produced a two-to-three page outline for a potential agreement over Tehran’s nuclear weapons research. Secretary of State John Kerry is apparently dropping plans to attend an event honoring his late colleague Sen. Edward Kennedy to stay in Lausanne, Switzerland, for the talks, which face a March 31 deadline.

Netanyahu said that even as it was meeting progress on a nuclear agreement, “Iran’s proxies in Yemen are overrunning large sections of that country, and are attempting to seize control of the strategic Bab-el-Mandeb straits which would affect the naval balance and the global oil supply.”
