Report: Four arrested over Libya attack

Libyan authorities have arrested four people in connection with Tuesday’s attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, Reuters reports.

“Four men are in custody and we are interrogating them because they are suspected of helping instigate the events at the U.S. consulate,” Deputy Interior Minister Wanis Sharif told the news agency. He offered no other details.

{mosads}U.S. officials suspect that the attack on the consulate might have been a coordinated assault by Libyan extremists. While the Obama administration says it’s too soon to know who’s behind the attacks, lawmakers have suggested there could be links to al Qaeda.

“The incident in Libya — it was a terrorist incident, there’s no question,” Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) told The Hill on Thursday.

President Obama vowed during a campaign stop in Colorado on Thursday to pursue the attackers relentlessly.

“We see on our televisions that there are still threats in the world and we have to stay vigilant,” Obama said. “That’s why we have to stay relentless in pursuing those who attacked us this week.”
