Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Tuesday called for the U.S. to rid itself of the United Nations, after the U.N. voted to censure Israel for settlement-building.
“I think we ought to get jackhammers and we ought to jackhammer the whole thing off, float it into the East River,” Huckabee told “Fox & Friends.”
“Ask anybody who would like to host it, to come pick it up, haul it off. And it will be a lot easier to park in Manhattan after we get rid of it.”
{mosads}The U.N. Security Council on Friday voted 14-0 to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The U.S. had the ability to veto the resolution, but abstained from doing so.
The Obama administration has been harshly criticized by American lawmakers, including President-elect Donald Trump, as well as Israeli leaders for not blocking the vote.
Huckabee said the resolution was an attempt to force Israel into “a suicide pact.”
“They’re trying to push Israel into accepting borders that would essentially be a suicide pact if Israel were ever to agree to it,” he said.
Huckabee was reportedly a candidate to serve as President-elect Donald Trump’s ambassador to Israel before he chose David Friedman.
Trump criticized the United Nations on Twitter on Monday, calling it “a club for people to get together, talk, and have a good time.”
