“There is no justification for such an outrageous and cowardly act in a democratic Tunisia,” she added. “We urge the Tunisian government to immediately conduct a transparent and professional investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice in a timely manner consistent with Tunisian law and international obligations.”

{mosads}Brahmi is the second Tunisian opposition politician to be shot down this year following the February slaying of fellow Popular Front member Chokri Belaid in similar circumstances.

The political killings have sparked protests against the ruling Islamist Ennahda party and threatened to unravel the fledgling democratic transition in the Arab Spring’s cradle.
