US resumes talks with Pakistan
{mosads}“This revitalized dialogue will address in a realistic fashion all of the many key issues between us,” Kerry said, “from border management to counterterrorism to promoting U.S. private investment and to Pakistan’s own journey to economic revitalization.”
Foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz said U.S. drones strikes were a key part of his discussions with Kerry. The United States has an 11 percent favorability rating in Pakistan — its lowest around the world — in large part because of its drone strike campaign, which has killed between 2,000 and 3,000 over the past decade, including hundreds of civilians.
“We also shared our concerns on the drone strikes which Pakistan not only considers a violation of our sovereignty,” Aziz said at a joint press conference with Kerry, “but it’s also counterproductive as they undermine the overall counterterrorism cooperation efforts.”
