Egypt’s leader, Trump speak

President Trump spoke by phone Monday morning with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to the White House.

The phone call is among Trump’s first to a foreign leader as president.

It comes after a weekend conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The talks come as Trump is considering whether to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Such a move would please several American Jewish groups, but it could provoke Egypt and other Arab allies of the U.S.

{mosads}Egypt is one of just two Arab countries that have signed a peace treaty with Israel, and their governments could influence Trump’s decision.

Sisi praised Trump after he was elected in November, expressing hope he would mend ties with Arab states that frayed under former President Barack Obama.

“Personally I respect and appreciate” Trump, Sisi told a Portuguese news outlet at the time. “I believe that President-elect Trump will be more rigorously engaged with the issues of the region.”
