Trump to push Abbas to end prisoner payments: report
President Trump will push Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to stop paying families of Palestinians imprisoned is Israel in an effort to help Middle East peace talks, according to The Associated Press.
Trump will also commit the U.S. to helping Palestinians develop their economy and discuss ending anti-Israel rhetoric when the two leaders meet in Washington on Wednesday, the report said.
Israel deeply opposes the payments to families of prisoners, viewing them as funding terrorists.
{mosads}In addition, Trump will reportedly emphasize to Abbas that Israeli settlements are not conducive to peace negotiations.
Peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine have been held up since their collapse in 2014 under the Obama administration.
Abbas is in Washington this week for his first meeting with Trump.
