Adelson frustrated Trump hasn’t moved Israel embassy to Jerusalem: report
GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson is frustrated that President Trump did not fulfill his campaign promise to move the U.S. Israeli embassy to Jerusalem on his first day in office, the New York Times reported late Friday.
Adelson will be in Israel later this month at the same time Trump heads there. Trump is traveling to Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Vatican as part of his first foreign trip as president.
{mosads}The casino magnate is closely following whether Trump keeps his campaign pledges to be a stalwart friend of Israel, the Times report said.
Adelson reportedly keeps in regular contact with White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon.
And the Times said he was enthused by Trump not protesting when Israel announced a new settlement in the West Bank.
Trump welcomed Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas at the White House this week, talking about brokering a Middle East peace deal.
The president called Abbas’s visit an “honor” in a tweet, but later deleted the tweet. His friendliness toward the Palestinian Authority president worried pro-Israel backers, who hoped for uncompromising support from Trump.
