US diplomat contacted three other detainees in North Korea

A U.S. envoy made contact with three other Americans being held in North Korea in addition to one released by the regime earlier this week.

Joseph Yun was sent to North Korea with two doctors to negotiate the release of 22-year-old American Otto Warmbier, who is in a coma, when he made contact with the three other American hostages.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert did not comment on the medical conditions of the American detainees.

{mosads}Kim Sang Duk and Kim Hak-song are among the Americans still being held by North Korea.

The news comes as doctors treating Warmbier disputed North Korea claims that he fell into his coma due to botulism.

“Tests did not reveal any evidence of active or chronic denervation or any repetitive stimulation that would suggest active botulism at this time,” Dr. Brandon Foreman said at a press conference.

Warmbier, who reportedly has severe brain damage, was released earlier this week and arrived in Cincinnati Tuesday night after being held by the North Korean government for over 17 months.

The North Korean government said it released Warmbier on humanitarian grounds.
