White House condemns Pakistan terror attacks
The White House condemned two terror attacks that killed more than 80 people in Pakistan on Friday.
“These attacks, which deliberately targeted civilians, and killed over 80 people, are a strong reminder of the threat posed throughout the region by the scourge of terrorism,” the White House said in a statement on Sunday.
“We stand with the people of Pakistan in their fight against it,” the statement continued.
{mosads}The first attack took place when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at a police checkpoint in the city of Quetta, leaving 13 dead and scores injured.
An offshoot of the Taliban in Pakistan and an Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) affiliate claimed responsibility
The attack was followed by a second attack in Parachinar that killed more than 50 people and injured hundreds when two suicide bombers detonated explosives in a market.
A Sunni militant group known as Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alami told AFP it was behind the second attack.
The attacks come as Pakistan has been rocked by a series of terror incidents within the last year.
