Netanyahu: Trump decision on Iran deal ‘brave’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview broadcast Sunday praised President Trump for his “brave decision” on the Iran nuclear accord.
“I think the president was very courageous in saying, ‘I’m not going to kick this can down the road. I’m not going to say, “Well, it’s going to be on somebody else’s watch.” I’m going to stop this from happening,’ ” Netanyahu told CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
{mosads}Netanyahu’s acclaim for Trump comes after the president in a speech last week announced that the nuclear deal is not in the United States’ national security interest. Trump said he would not certify Iran’s compliance with the accord. But he did not withdraw from the agreement, nor did he tell Congress to reimpose sanctions on Iran.
“We cannot allow this rogue regime 30 times the size of North Korea’s economy to have a nuclear arsenal,” Netanyahu said in the CBS interview.
“It’s a very brave decision, and I think it’s the right decision for the world.”
The prime minister also said European allies that want to salvage the accord should work with the United States to “correct its deficiencies.”
