Iran’s supreme leader: Trump ‘pretends to be an idiot’
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, blasted President Trump on Wednesday, saying the president is “foul-mouthed” and “pretends to be an idiot.”
Khamenei said the U.S. wants to “take back young, faithful and developed Iran to 50 years ago,” CNN reported.
“And of course this is not possible, but due to backwardness, they are incapable of understanding this reality,” he said. “And for this reason they have made a miscalculation and suffered, and will suffer successive defeats at the hands of the Iranian nation.”
During his remarks, Khamenei also said Europeans need to stand up to the U.S. measures “including the sanctions they anticipate to emerge from Congress.”
His comments come after Trump announced earlier this month that his administration would not recertify Iran’s compliance in the Iran nuclear deal, though he didn’t withdraw from the pact.
“I am announcing today that we cannot and will not make this certification,” Trump said. “We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence, more terror and the very real threat of Iran’s nuclear breakout.”
Trump threatened to withdraw from the deal if Congress doesn’t act.
“Phase two might be positive, and it might be very negative,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting earlier this week.
“It might be a total termination. That’s a very real possibility; some would say that’s a greater possibility. But it could also could turn out to be very positive. We’ll see what happens,” he said.
