Trump constantly interrupts Theresa May in phone calls: report

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May reportedly cannot get her points across in phone calls with President Trump because he interrupts her and totally dominates the discussion, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

Trump reportedly leaves May with five or 10 seconds to speak before interrupting her, according to someone familiar with the relationship, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.

The report adds more color to a complicated relationship between the two leaders that has recently grown more fraught, with Trump canceling a planned trip to open the new U.S. Embassy in London.

Trump also reportedly complained to May in a phone call about negative coverage in British newspapers, and said he would not visit the U.K. until she could promise that he would not be met with protests.

Bloomberg reported that May’s advisers listened in astonishment at Trump’s demand, while May told him that there was not much she could do about the press coverage.

{mosads}Trump’s not-yet-scheduled state visit to the country has been a source of contention for British leaders. London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been an outspoken critic of Trump and has called for the British government to cancel his state invitation.

Some on May’s team now rue the decision to invite Trump at all, Bloomberg reported.

Other British lawmakers called for the visit to be canceled after Trump retweeted racist videos from a far-right British group late last year. May said at the time that it was “wrong” for Trump to retweet the videos, but said that she would not revoke his invitation for a state visit.

Trump canceled his January visit to open the new embassy building, citing a “bad” Obama-era real estate deal, though the embassy deal was actually completed under former President George W. Bush.
