Propaganda loudspeakers dismantled at Korean border

North and South Korea on Tuesday took down large speakers along the border between the two countries that had been used for years to blast propaganda.

The Associated Press reported that South Korean soldiers began dismantling the speakers and taking them away from the border. A South Korean military officer told the AP that North Korea had begun doing the same thing.

Both countries had turned off the broadcasts flowing through the speakers last week ahead of a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in. It was the first time Kim had crossed into South Korea.

The removal of the speakers is the latest in a series of steps that indicate improving relations between the two countries.

It also comes as President Trump prepares for an expected meeting with the North Korean leader in the coming weeks.

Multiple reports over the weekend indicated that North Korea has offered major concessions, such as ending its nuclear program, if the U.S. agrees not to invade the country in the future.

Trump, who has demanded complete denuclearization in North Korea, said Monday that Singapore and the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea are being considered as potential meeting sites.
