Kasich uses Hillary Clinton’s campaign motto to blast Trump’s ‘America First’ message at UN

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) criticized President Trump over his rebuke of “globalism” during remarks at the United Nations, while taking a cue from Trump’s 2016 Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Kasich warned Trump that his policy of “America First” could result in “America Alone.” He added that the U.S. and other nations are “Stronger Together,” a nod to Clinton’s campaign slogan.

“America First should not be America Alone. Working with allies does not mean being subordinate to them. We are stronger together. #UNGA,” the Ohio governor tweeted hours after Trump’s speech on Tuesday.

{mosads}Trump told members of the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday that his administration “reject[s] the ideology of globalism and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism.”

The fiery remarks were punctuated by an awkward moment when Trump’s boasts about his administration’s successes were met with laughter from foreign leaders and dignitaries.

“Oh, it was great,” Trump later told reporters. “Well, that was meant to get some laughter, but it was great.”

Kasich, who faced Trump in the 2016 Republican primary and has been floated as a possible 2020 contender, is a frequent critic of the president and has warned that the GOP is “shrinking” with Trump in the Oval Office.

“We’re now down to about 25 percent. It’s all becoming like a remnant,” he said on CBS earlier this month.
