UK’s May delays vote on Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May said Sunday that she is delaying the next vote in Parliament on a Brexit deal until March 12.

May, who was traveling to Egypt on Sunday, told reporters that she and her team will visit Brussels on Tuesday to discuss changes to the deal with European Union (EU) leaders, according to The Associated Press and Reuters.

{mosads}Britain is slated to leave the EU on March 29 but has struggled with terms of the agreement.

“As a result of that we won’t bring a meaningful vote to Parliament this week. But we will ensure that that happens by March 12,” she said. “It is still within our grasp to leave the European Union with a deal on the 29th of March and that is what we are working to do.”

The next vote will come after Parliament voted overwhelmingly in January to reject the previous Brexit deal. The Parliament’s lower house, the House of Commons, voted 432-202 against the deal.

A majority of voters in the U.K. supported Brexit in a 2016 referendum.
