France’s EU minister names her cat ‘Brexit’ because when she opens the door ‘he stays put’

Nathalie Loiseau, France’s minister for European affairs, told Le Journal du Dimanche this week that she has named her cat “Brexit” because he is often reluctant to leave.

“He wakes me up every morning meowing to death because he wants to go out, and then when I open the door he stays put, undecided, and then glares at me when I put him out,” Loiseau said.

Her comment comes after the British Parliament narrowly rejected leaving the European Union without an exit agreement last week.{mosads}

The Parliament voted 312-308 on Wednesday to reject such a move. The vote does not eliminate the possibility of the United Kingdom leaving the EU, but it does allow members of Parliament to vote to delay Brexit.

The U.K. voted to leave the EU in 2016, but since then its Parliament has struggled to come to a withdrawal agreement.

The Speaker of the Parliament on Monday said he would block Prime Minister Theresa May’s push for a third vote on her Brexit deal if she did not agree to changes, throwing the fate of the country’s departure from the bloc into further doubt.

Loiseau has rejected multiple U.K. proposals and warned against a no-deal Brexit in the past.

She is projected as a top candidate in Emmanuel Macron’s party in the European Parliament elections. She will be running against controversial far-right figure Marine Le Pen.
