Ugandan police make arrests in kidnapping of American woman

Ugandan police said Tuesday they have made arrests in the kidnapping case of an American woman and her safari guide.

Police did not give details about how many arrests have been made but said that they were “actively investigating” the April 2 kidnapping.

{mosads}”The joint security team actively investigating the kidnapping incident and successful recovery of an American tourist Ms. Kimberly Sue Endicott and a Senior Tour Guide, Jean Paul Mirenge-Remezo, has made some arrests of suspects, on suspicion of being involved in their kidnap,” the department’s account tweeted Tuesday.

They added that the hunt for the kidnappers, including “raids and extensive searches,” is taking place in southwestern Uganda.

Endicott and her local driver were kidnapped by four gunman during a drive. They were freed on Sunday after five days.

The individuals behind the plot demanded a $500,000 ransom for their release. ABC News reported that a ransom was paid to secure their release but the amount was unknown.

On Monday, President Trump called on those responsible for the kidnapping to be apprehended.

“Uganda must find the kidnappers of the American Tourist and guide before people will feel safe in going there. Bring them to justice openly and quickly!” Trump tweeted.
