Trump laments EU ‘being so tough’ on Brexit

President Trump knocked the European Union (EU) in a tweet late Wednesday, accusing the bloc of being too tough on British negotiators seeking to secure the United Kingdom’s exit.

Trump lamented that the EU was “so tough” on the United Kingdom (UK) and Brexit, and suggested that the union was a “brutal” trading partner with the U.S., which he said “will change.”

{mosads}”Too bad that the European Union is being so tough on the United Kingdom and Brexit,” Trump wrote. “The E.U. is likewise a brutal trading partner with the United States, which will change.”

“Sometimes in life you have to let people breathe before it all comes back to bite you!” he added.

Trump’s remark came hours after European negotiators agreed to give the U.K. an extension on Brexit following an emergency summit in Brussels between British Prime Minister Theresa May and EU leaders.

The summit ended Wednesday with negotiators agreeing to extend the deadline for a no-deal Brexit until October 31.

The deal arranged Wednesday will force the U.K. to participate in the upcoming EU elections, which May was previously hoping to avoid. The extension also comes as many in the U.K. have called for a second referendum on whether the U.K. should continue with Brexit negotiations or remain in the EU indefinitely.
