Netherlands reimposing work-at-home guidelines as COVID-19 cases soar

The Netherlands is reimposing work-from-home guidelines as coronavirus infections soar in the country. 

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the new restrictions to Parliament on Wednesday after infections rose to more than 10,000 new cases on the same day, Reuters reported. 

Members of Parliament were recalled from their summer vacation due to the new spike in coronavirus cases, which came just over two weeks after most coronavirus restrictions were lifted. 

Restrictions on bars and restaurants were reimplemented on Friday in response to the rise. The work-from-home guidelines are not going to be enforced and are only for those who can work from home.

Festivals and events with large crowds will also be restricted until Aug. 14. 

A spike in coronavirus cases is being seen across the world as the delta variant of the virus becomes more prevalent. 

Sydney, Australia, just extended its lockdowns again due to an increase in infections. 

Areas of the U.S. where vaccination rates are low have seen an increase in cases, concerning officials. 

Some counties in the U.S. are even asking residents to wear masks again regardless of vaccination status in response to the infections.
