S. Korean president: Korean diplomacy could be Trump’s greatest diplomatic achievement

South Korean President Moon Jae-in in a new interview said solving the North Korean nuclear issue could be President Trump’s greatest achievement while in office.

“Then I believe that this will be the most fruitful achievement that we can achieve during our terms in office,” Moon told “CBS This Morning.” “And I also believe that this will be the greatest diplomatic achievement for President Trump as well.”

When pressed on this, Moon said solving the North Korean nuclear issue could be Trump’s greatest achievement because he has made doing so a top priority. Moon also noted that it is a feat previous administrations could not achieve.

Moon, in the interview, said his goal as president is to “draw North Korea out to the table for negotiations” through pressure and sanctions.

“I certainly hope that conditions could become right for such dialogue before the end of the year,” Moon told CBS. “And just because we believe the dialogue is necessary does not mean that we have to be impatient for dialogue.”

The Trump administration most recently condemned North Korea after Otto Warmbier, the American college student detained by North Korea for 17 months, died on Monday. Before his death, Warmbier’s family said their son had been in a coma for more than a year.
